If I tried to open Device Manager "As Administrator", it would only list the installed printers under the local admin user, which did not include that network printer, so I still couldn't get it updated. For some reason it wasn't giving me any "Updated Driver" options. And for some reason I was having a heck of a time getting that driver updated while logged in as a "standard user". This is the first one I've had to update since we went fully to Win10 in December. We had previously updated the drivers on all the workstations when we were all on Win7. However in this case, the installed driver on the server was outdated.

Then I double-click on a printer and it installs the driver on the workstation. Normally I just open Windows Explorer, type in \\server (our server name), and all the shared folders and printers will show up. Was trying to install a large format printer that's connected to the server machine and shared on the network. This produced a new result when trying to install the printer, but it still failed and gave me the same error. So I dug a little more and found an article stating it was a driver issue and to delete the drivers via a command :

  • C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\ if you are using 32-bit Windows 7.
  • C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\圆4\3\ if you are using 64-bit Windows 7.

    I can ping the printer from command prompt without issue and connect to it via IE or any web browser. It only happens to a small % of computers in our office and the computers vary between new computers that were recently deployed and old computers that have been here for over a year. For the life of me I can not figure out why this is happening.
